The Second RescueMicah 7:8

I Already Gave The Testimony

This message is for to ask again when you have already stood up in front of a room and told them what God did

The recording is still up.

Somebody clipped it, and it did the rounds, and every few months it comes back around. A woman you have never met sends it to you with three flame emojis and says this got my brother through a Tuesday.

You are in your car in the parking lot. Service starts in eleven minutes. The heater is on and the keys are still in the ignition.

In the clip you are wearing the blue dress. You can hear yourself doing the thing where your voice drops right before the good part. You say the date out loud. You say, and I have not touched it since, and the room comes up off the seats, and somebody at the back is already standing before you finish the sentence.

And it was all true. That is what nobody understands about this. Every word on that recording was true the day you said it, and it is still true about that day.

Then there is August. And three weeks ago, twice. And the fact that you know where it is in the house right now, to the inch.

Eleven minutes.

You have been through every option in this car and all of them are bad. Tell them, and the clip comes down, and you take away the thing that got somebody's brother through his Tuesday. Say nothing, and walk in and be the woman in the blue dress for another ninety minutes, and come back out to this same seat.

Ask God again? You did the asking. You did the asking on the worst night of your life and He came, and He came all the way, and then you stood up in front of four hundred people and put His name on it.

You cannot go back to Him with the same thing. You would not go back to a person who cleared your debt once and ask them to clear it again three years later.

That is the sentence. That is the exact one that has been sitting in your chest since August, in those words, in your own voice.

Nine minutes.

The sentence that has been running your life from the passenger seat

Here is the man who wrote our verse, and where he was standing when he wrote it.

Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me.Micah 7:8

That is not a victory speech. It is said from the ground, mid fall, with something standing over him enjoying the view. And look at the word he uses. When I fall. Not if. The man is not promising he will never be down there again, and he is not pretending he is not down there now. He is telling the thing that is gloating exactly what happens next, and what happens next has nothing whatsoever to do with his own footing.

You are not out of turn asking a second time. Lamentations 3:23 says the mercies are new every morning, which is a sentence about a fresh delivery rather than about a remaining balance, and the Holy Spirit is not standing at the door with a ledger of what got used up in March.

And now the actual ache, because it is not the fall, and being vague about it is how it keeps its grip.

The fall is bad and nobody here is pretending otherwise. But the unbearable part is the recording. It is that four hundred people heard you say the date. It is that the clip is still moving through phones in three counties. It is that going back to God feels like standing up in the same room in the same blue dress and issuing a correction, and you would honestly rather sit in this car until the singing starts.

You have not been disqualified by the recording. 2 Timothy 2:13 says that if we are faithless He abides faithful, because He cannot deny Himself, and the word grounds the whole arrangement in His character rather than in your consistency, and the same Spirit who was in that room on the night you told it is in this car right now with the engine running.

There is a man in the Gospels who gave his testimony before the fall rather than after it. He stood up in front of the others and said that even if every man in the room abandoned Jesus, he never would. On the record. In front of witnesses.

Then a fire in a courtyard, and a servant girl asking a question, and three denials, and a bird.

And what came for that man afterward was not a rebuke and it was not a probation. It was a charcoal fire on a beach at dawn with fish already cooking on it, and a question asked three times, once for each denial, so that the record could be written over in exactly the number of strokes it took to break.

You are being come for again, and there is nothing grudging in it. John 21 has Jesus making breakfast for the man who denied Him, the word does not put Him on the sand with His arms folded waiting for an apology, and the Holy Spirit did not walk you into a page about a second rescue in order to shame you about the first one.

Notice what that sentence in your chest was actually doing. It was quietly making God a creditor. A creditor can be exhausted. There is a real number, and every draw lowers it, and that is exactly how it works between human beings, which is why your reasoning in the car felt so solid.

Nothing in Scripture puts a figure on His side of it. No quota. No warning that the patience is running thin. What is there instead is a Father who runs.

You have a Father who ran at somebody in far worse shape than you. Luke 15:20 says he ran while the son was still a long way off, before one word of the prepared speech had been delivered, and His Spirit is the one who has been putting that same running into your chest, which you have been reading as dread when it was only ever welcome.

The breakthrough

So the ask is not a new ask, and it is not an appeal.

It is the same ask, to the same arm, and Micah 7:8 wrote your line for you long before you needed it: when I fall, I rise, and the Lord is the light in the sitting-in-darkness part of it. You are not filing anything, and the Holy Spirit is not the one who taught you to think of Him as a desk.

And this part is not optional, because a night like the one you have been having can go somewhere further than shame. If you are in danger tonight, or the thing in the house has become a danger to you, tell a living human being before anything else. A friend who will drive over, your doctor, your sponsor if you have one, emergency services or the crisis line where you live if that is outside the United States, and inside it 988, which answers a call and a text at any hour. You are not a burden to whoever picks up, and none of this is a failure of faith: Scripture puts real rescue into human hands on purpose, and the Holy Spirit works through people with cars and phone numbers. Making that call is obedience.

Then do the thing with the keys.

Declare this over yourself

Say these with the engine off. What you are speaking does not rest on your record since the night of that recording: the authority is Christ's, and in Christ it is yours, so you speak as one representing the King and not as a woman on probation. Micah 7:8 is the ground under every word and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes them land. However He answers, and in His own way and His own timing, the outcome is His.

  1. Recording still going round, you are not a contract and you do not get to lock the door I came in by. Micah 7:8 says that when I fall I rise, and that the Lord Himself is the light in the dark I am sitting in, so what I told that room is still true and August has not closed my way back, and the Holy Spirit is in this car with me.
  2. Verdict that says I have used Him up, get off my chest and out of my mouth. In the name of Jesus I put you outside this car, and what comes in behind you is what His word says, that His compassions are new every morning and were never once rationed to me by the month, and His Spirit is the one who brought me back to the same door on purpose.
  3. My God, You came the first time when I had nothing at all to bring You, and You are not a different God on the second night, and Your word says that when I fall I rise because You are my light. I am taking the keys out and asking You out loud in the present tense, and Your Spirit is walking me in through those doors.

Why we ask you to say these out loud

The word this stands on
